Day 3: Only believe?

A Christian is a person who follows Jesus Christ.

The formula for receiving Christ as Lord and saviour is to only be-lieve. Ephesians 2:8-9 shows that salvation is a work of God. There is absolutely nothing that we can do to earn a right stand-ing with God. It is important to go to church and do what is right, but that cannot buy, our salvation. His grace is an open fountain that whosoever thirsts can drink from it.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Jesus is absolutely the only way to go to heaven. There are no two ways about it.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him,”I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Its only by believing in Christ, that we are saved

John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see lifr, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Choosing to follow Christ involves

• Recognizing my sinfulness, the inevitable consequences of my sin and my inability to save myself from that state.

• Recognizing God’s standard for acceptance into His kingdom –receiving forgiveness on the basis of what Christ has done for me on the cross.

• Receiving the gift of forgive-ness, on whose basis my sins are forgiven, I’m accepted as a child of God and granted eternal life.

• Commiting to walk in obedience to Christ as my Lord, all the days of my life.

John 3: 16-18

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. [Or his begotten Son] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world through him. Whoever believesvin him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believe in the name of God’s one and only Son.

What next?

If you haven’t made an informed decision to follow Christ before, you could do it today. Prayer is one wau of expressing your new commitment to Christ. Below is a sample prayer:

Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Today I ask you to forgive me all my sins. I also invite you to be Lord of my life. I accept your gift of forgive-ness and eternal life with much gratitude, and commit to live in a manner pleasing to you, as you enable me. In Christ’s name. Amen.
