My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for two years. At the beginning of last year, I had a phantom pregnancy. What is this all about?
A phantom or false pregnancy is a condition in which a non-pregnant woman exhibits all the classic symptoms of pregnancy and is firmly convinced she’s pregnant, even when medical evidence clearly shows she isn’t. It is most common in older women who desparately want a child and have been trying to conceive for many years. These women may appear normal emotionally, but there could be an underlying psychological problem. The cause is unknown and treatment is based on psychological counselling and support.
